Terms & Conditions

4. Dealing with orders, refunds and complaints

Effective Date: 1st January, 2026

Bookbuyers ordering books from the Readerama Sites must click to accept these terms, which are linked to the checkout page.

When a Bookbuyer orders a book from the Readerama Sites, we, acting as agent for the Bookseller in the Bookseller’s name and on the Bookseller’s behalf, will:

  • Send the Bookbuyer an order acknowledgement email
  • Promptly inform the Bookseller of the Bookbuyer order by email and let them know which postage option the buyer has chosen
  • If the Bookseller tells us they are unable to fulfil an order, we will send the Bookbuyer an order rejection email in our standard format and the Bookseller will be liable for any costs incurred due to their rejection of the order.
  • Take payment for Bookbuyer orders for the book when we confirm acceptance of an order in the Bookseller’s name and on their behalf. The Account interface will tell the Bookseller whether or not payment has been received for any order.

Our email will include all the information about the ordered book which you have included in your listing. You are responsible for ensuring that this information meets legal, tax and regulatory information requirements.

What you must do when we tell you about an order

When we tell you about an order you must:

  • Tell us as soon as possible, via email, if you will not be able to supply the book.
  • In all other cases, subject to the Account interface confirming that payment has been received from the Bookbuyer, supply the book to the Bookbuyer in the way and within at least the timescale set out in the delivery details.
  • Comply in full with these terms.
  • Send within the timelines. You must comply with any specific requirements for each courier as outlined in our Help Centre.

As a Bookseller you are obliged, as a condition of using the platform, to ensure that items;

  • Are despatched promptly and with proof of postage;
  • Match the description provided in the listing; and
  • Arrive in a condition consistent with that description.
  • ensure that the insurance offered by the courier covers the value of the item and, if not, you will arrange extra insurance via you own channels if the book is worth more than what is covered by the courier’s insurance policy. We will not be liable for any books which go missing/damaged in transit. Any failure to buy adequate insurance does not shift loss to Readerama or Buyer.
  • ensure that books are packaged securely and appropriately to avoid damage in transit. Readerama is not responsible for any claims arising from inadequate packaging
  • use a Bookbuyer’s delivery address solely for the purpose of fulfilling that specific order through the Readerama delivery process. You must not copy, store, share, or use it for any other reason and should delete any record after fulfilment.
  • Readerama is a peer-to-peer marketplace where Booksellers sell directly to Buyers. As transactions take place between individuals, consumer law relating to retail purchases does not apply. All sales are considered final, except in limited cases where the item is manifestly different to the description (for example, the wrong book, missing pages, or undisclosed severe damage). In such cases, Bookbuyers must raise the issue within 48 hours of receiving the item and provide supporting evidence. Readerama may, at its discretion, issue a refund where a legitimate claim is made.

If a Bookbuyer’s ordered item is either: not delivered; arrives damaged; or, is manifestly different to the description, the Bookseller is obliged to provide a full refund. Please see Refund Policy below for further details.

Risk of loss / proof of delivery

Risk of loss passes on successful delivery scan at the Bookbuyer’s address or collection point. ‘Delivery confirmed’ means the courier’s delivered event or Bookbuyer confirmation, whichever occurs first. A Bookbuyer has 48 hours after Delivery is confirmed to report ‘not received / damaged / not as described’ otherwise the status of the order will automatically show as successful and funds will be allocated.

Dealing with customer questions about orders

 As a Bookseller, you must deal promptly and professionally with any Bookbuyer questions that we email you with. All of your responses to Bookbuyer questions will be channelled through us. You and we will co-operate with each other in trying to resolve any such questions.

No right of cancellation for Bookbuyer

The transaction between Bookbuyer and Bookseller on the Readerama Sites is one of consumer to consumer, and therefore consumer protection laws relating to rights to cancel and/or rights to receive a refund are limited. A Bookbuyer has no right to cancel an order once submitted and may only request a refund in limited circumstances (please see Refund Policy below).

Bookbuyer complaints

We will tell you if a Bookbuyer complains to us about you or one of your books, including any complaints that books have not been delivered, and we will provide you with all relevant details about the complaint. You must deal with the complaint promptly.

See also clause Clause 9. (Claims and actions against us in connection with you or your books).

Bookbuyer reviews

Bookbuyers may be invited to leave a review after a completed purchase. When leaving a review you must ensure that:

  • Reviews are honest and based on your genuine experience.
  • Reviews are not defamatory, abusive, or misleading.
  • You do not post reviews in exchange for payment, discounts or other benefits.

We may remove or edit reviews that breach these rules or our Acceptable Use Policy.
