2. Our services to you

Who we are and how to contact us

Effective Date: 1st January, 2026

Who we are and how to contact us:

We are Readerama Ltd trading as Readerama, a limited company (registration number 16655106). We are based at 266 Banbury Road, Oxford OX2 7DL.

The quickest route to contacting us is via email at [email protected]

2. Our services to you and when these terms apply

At Readerama we own and manage our website, Readerama.com, together with other platforms and applications that we may from time to time offer to you (“the Readerama Sites”).

From our Readerama Sites we offer an online consumer to consumer (“C2C”)* marketplace/hosting service, where we act as an intermediary between, and facilitator for, buyers and sellers of second-hand books (“Users”).

As a buyer you will be able to view, search and buy books (“Bookbuyer”). As a seller you will be able to list books, via their individual ISBN numbers, or via manual upload which will then be available for sale to other Users (“Bookseller”). A User can be both a Bookseller and a Bookbuyer.

We do not buy or sell books ourselves and are not a party to the transaction between Users. Our main service to you is hosting the Readerama Sites for you and other Users to buy and sell second-hand books. All Booksellers acknowledge that there will be times when we need to help facilitate parts of the transaction on their behalf and, as such, authorise us to be their commercial agent at those times, as more particularly detailed in these terms. You, as the Bookseller, shall remain the merchant of record for each and every transaction.

*The Readerama Sites are currently only available for C2C transactions. The Readerama team anticipate being able to provide functionality for business users at a later date (“B2C”) and/or (“B2B”). Please watch this space for updates.

These terms apply to all users of the Readerama Sites, whether you are a Bookbuyer or a Bookseller. Terms which appear in bold have specific meanings. For ease, a full list of these terms are set out at clause X (Defined terms).

The policies which form part of these terms

The policies set out below, which you and we must comply with, form part of these terms and our agreement with you. The policies are:

  • Acceptable use policy. This sets out what you can and cannot do when creating your profile and listings as a Bookseller, what you can and cannot do as a Bookbuyer and how to review and respond. A copy of the Acceptable use policy can be found here.
  • Commission and fees policy. This sets out what commission we charge you as a Bookseller and how we calculate the commission due to us and the sums payable to you. This also notes any shipping fees for Bookbuyers. A copy of the Commission and fees policy can be found here
  • Prohibited books policy. This sets out a list of books or other such media that we, at Readerama, wish to prohibit our Users from selling on the Readerama Sites. This list has been carefully crafted to take into account all relevant laws and guidelines. The Prohibited books policy can be found at the end of these terms.

Other policies that may apply to you when using the Readerama Sites include:

  • Privacy policy which explains how we collect, use and store your personal data.
  • Cookie policy which sets out information about the cookies on the Readerama Sites.

For additional help in navigating through the process, please refer to the “How it works” page found here and the Frequently Asked Questions (“FAQS”) found here.

The Readerama Sites are directed to people residing in the United Kingdom. We do not represent that content available on or through our site is appropriate for use or available in other locations.

We will inform you of any enquiries received about your books through the Readerama Site. This helps us to keep a full record of all communications in relation to any transaction in case there are any disputes.

You may only use our Account interface and the other computer systems that support, operate and comprise the Readerama Sites for listing and selling your books and communicating with us as envisaged in these terms. You warrant that you will not attempt to set up a direct relationship with another User and/or attempt to take communications or sales outside of the Readerama Sites.

You agree to use all reasonable security practices to prevent unauthorised access or damage to our systems. These practices include but are not limited to:

  • Use our systems to provide services to third parties or allow or assist third parties to access our systems.
  • Create multiple accounts to evade punishment or avoid restrictions.

Creating your Bookseller profile and listing books on the Readerama Sites

If you wish to sell books you must create a Bookseller profile on the Readerama Sites. Once you have done this you can create listings to sell your books on the Readerama Sites through your Account interface.

To list a book you can either scan the ISBN barcode on the back of the book or enter the ISBN manually. This will prompt our system to create a profile of the book which you should check and confirm is correct. Should the ISBN barcode not register a profile you should manually input the ISBN number which will then require you to take a photo of the front cover of the book. For further details on how to list a book please refer to the How it Works page. We do not allow books without an ISBN.

You represent and warrant that you will:

  • Only create listings for books which are not prohibited books (as set out in our Prohibited books policy (which can be found at the bottom of these terms).
  • Only list books which comply with all applicable legislation and regulations affecting their manufacture, sale, packaging and labelling and do not infringe third party trade marks or other intellectual property rights.
  • Only list books which are already in the UK at the time of their sale to Bookbuyers.

You must ensure that your Bookseller profile, information about the book and the listings for your books:

  • Comply with our Acceptable use policy, which bans things such as obscenity and defamation.
  • Are in the English language and are clear and comprehensible.
  • Do not include anything which would encourage or allow customers to contact you directly, such as email or social media contact details, website addresses or other links. We reserve the right to remove such information.
  • Do not use any search engine optimisation techniques which breach search engines’ guidelines or involve deception, including but not limited to keyword stuffi

You cannot list fake, stolen or unauthorised or prohibited books

You may only list books on the Readerama Sites that are authentic, true originals or true copies, authorised for sale and that have been paid for by you or gifted to you. You must be able to verify that your books are authentic, authorised for sale, not stolen, and not counterfeit or unauthorised copies. If we ask you to, you must promptly provide us with genuine and conclusive documentary evidence showing that you are authorised to sell your books on the Readerama Site. We can suspend a listing for a book or terminate this agreement under clause 7 (Suspension of listings, termination of this agreement and disputes) if you fail to comply with any requirement of this clause.

Pricing books, Readerama commission, delivery charges, payment methods

How you price your books is entirely up to you and you can change the price for your books at any time using the Account interface. To help you set your price, please refer to clause 5 (Set your price) on the How it Works page. Please allow a reasonable time for revised prices to be displayed on the Readerama Sites. If your book has not sold for a certain amount of time, we may notify you and recommend that you consider repricing the item.

Once you have set your price, please enter it on the Readerama Site. Our systems will then calculate for you how much you will receive should the sale be successful. This calculation will include the price of the book less our commission. Our commission is calculated automatically based upon 5% of the sale price plus £0.75 per book to cover administration fees.

The Bookbuyer will be charged the book price shown on the Readerama Sites at the time they submit their order, which will consist of the price the Bookseller chose for the book (and any other discount they allow) plus any delivery charges based on the Bookbuyer’s preferred delivery method. The total amount the Bookbuyer must pay will be made clear to the Bookbuyer at checkout.

Readerama’s chosen third party payment service provider is Stripe Inc through its UK subsidiary, Stripe Payments (UK) Limited, a licenced electronic money institution in the UK which is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority to process payments. All Booksellers are asked to set up a Stripe account as part of the set up process and must complete the Stripe identity checks and comply with any and all verification requirements. Stripe will process all payments.

Once a Bookbuyer has purchased a book(s), payment will be processed by Stripe; funds are allocated by Stripe to the Bookseller’s connected Stripe account balance. Once delivery of the book is confirmed by the chosen courier and 48 hours have passed without issue reported by the Bookbuyer, Readerama, acting as the Bookseller’s agent, will notify Stripe to release the funds to the Bookseller’s connected Stripe account.

Because Stripe charges a small handling fee on each transaction, we’ve set a minimum withdrawal amount to help you keep more of your earnings. You’ll be able to withdraw your funds once your balance reaches £20, and each withdrawal must be at least £20 (“the Minimum Withdrawal Amount”). This way, you won’t lose too much to fees on small transfers. Please note that Stripe accounts don’t earn interest.

Your responsibilities as a Bookbuyer

When you buy a book through the Readerama Sites you agree that you will:

  • Provide accurate and up-to-date delivery details and ensure you or someone on your behalf is available to accept delivery or pick up from a locker within the specified timeframe.
  • Check the package promptly on receipt and notify us of any issues within the time limits set out below.
  • Only use the Readerama Sites to purchase books for your personal use.
  • Not attempt to contact the Bookseller directly outside the Readerama Sites.

If you fail to comply with these responsibilities, we may:

  • Suspend or permanently disable your account.
  • Remove reviews or other content you have posted.
  • Withhold any Bookbuyer Protection (including refunds) if your claim is dishonest or abusive.
